STRATEGY

“Beat the Boss” is an interactive, two-level online game created for CBBC to engage children aged 6 to 12. The core challenge: outsmart a computer-generated “boss” by designing a product that best matches the style of a randomly selected child. Players win when their design scores higher than the boss’s.

The game uses a simple, turn-based loop with clear, kid-friendly objectives:

  • Component selection: both the player and the boss choose product components from three options, aiming to match the target child’s unique style.

  • Judging and scoring: each design is evaluated based on how closely its components align with the style brief.

  • Outcome: a final win/loss screen provides feedback, rewarding players for thoughtful choices.

By prompting players to compare options and make strategic decisions, the game naturally encourages analytical thinking, pattern recognition, and confidence in decision-making,  all wrapped in a fun, playful experience.

Brand

We designed characters that would feel relatable to the young audience, using bright colours for the young characters and shades of grey for ¨the boss¨.
