STRATEGY
"Beat the Boss" is an interactive, two-level online game created for CBBC, designed to engage children aged 6-12. The game's primary objective is for the player to compete against a computer-generated "boss" by designing a product that best matches the style of a randomly selected child. The player wins by creating a product with a higher score than the boss.
The game operates on a simple, turn-based loop with clear objectives:
-
Component Selection: The player and a "boss" each select product components from three options to match the target's style.
-
Judging and Scoring: Both products are scored based on how well their components align with the target's style.
-
Outcome: The player wins by achieving a higher total score than the boss, with a win/loss screen to provide feedback.
The game subtly encourages analytical thinking and decision-making as players learn to identify and match styles.
Brand
We designed characters that would feel relatable to the young audience, using bright colours for the young characters and shades of grey for ¨the boss¨.
